I’ve just sat down
May 6, 2007
What a day.
It was one of those days that has been all go, but nothing in the bank to show for it! Satisfying as it was, that is.
It started with me feeding my baby parakeet and as I clipped its wings, I took Filbert outside on the pool deck to chill a bit. I saw his (or her, we aren’t too sure yet) mother and father still roaming around outside, so I thought I would let them greet each other, and they did. His mother fed him a bit after which both parents encouraged him to fly. He did try, poor thing, but obviously couldn’t. So he kept exploring the deck and then came to me to be picked up!
I sat with him at the table and fed him little morsels of this and that until my wife arrived back from the morning school run, then we both went in the pool for a swim and Filbert was left to roam. He did come to me on the pool’s edge for comfort.
I showered and went directly to the ma’atem to offer my condolences to my sister’s husband’s family on the death of a much loved aunt, then went to the office.
Come lunch and I went to meet with a minister who took umbrage with one of my articles and lodged a libel case against me in court. The mediation of the journalists’ association and various other bodies from within and without Bahrain exerted enough pressure for him to seek a resolution in reconciliation. I was ready for that and went and met him in his office with my lawyer who was appointed by the Bahrain Journalists Association.
Chit-chat and document signed, I went back to the ma’atem for the final rights and condoled with the deceased family and joined them in the cemetery for a final farewell.
Back to the office and the interviews continued (the first was while I was still at the cemetery!)
Back home to prepare to go out to dinner and I got a call apprising me of a press release by the Bahrain Journalists Association in regards to the reconciliation which I thought was excellent. I can’t thank them enough for their help in this matter and their appointing the excellent Ms. Fatima Al-Hawaj as general council for this case in my defence.
I went out to find the place of the dinner, only to find that it was postponed to later in the week. I was told about this postponement but it didn’t register in my over-weighed brain. Anyway, it was an opportunity to find the place.
Back home now and I am beat. I need to go to bed pretty soon.
G’night!
